Agroecology

The goal of agroecology is to create agricultural production that works in harmony with the natural environment and socially sustainable, fair food systems.

Agroecology is a set of scientific trends, practices and social aspirations at the same time. It began to gain ground as a response to the problems caused by industrialized agriculture. Its scientific foundations are in the fields of agronomy, ecology, social sciences and economics.

The science of agroecology explores the environmental, social and economic connections of food systems. Agroecological research started at the level of farms, but now also extends to the level of food systems; they look for and strengthen the interactions between actors not only in agriculture but also on the social levels. The research questions are action-oriented and based on the participation of farmers, thus they exceed the possibilities of traditional academic research. Local, folk and traditional knowledge are also used within research methods that cross disciplines.
